More About Regular Domestic Cleaning Prices in London

“How much does it cost to hire a regular domestic cleaner in London?” This is the question that starts many of our clients on their journey to finding the right cleaning company for their needs.

While we don’t compete with others on price (we’re not, nor do we want to be the cheapest company on the London market), we do understand this is an important question.

That’s why we’ve decided to save you the time for perusing through dozens of websites before you can find what you’re looking for. We’ve performed a detailed analysis on the regular domestic cleaning prices in London so you don’t have to.

But before we can talk about regular domestic cleaning prices in London, first we need to establish what domestic cleaning actually is.

What is Regular Domestic Cleaning?

Regular domestic cleaning refers to a scheduled cleaning of your home on a regular basis. It’s like a subscription. Except, instead of Netflix, you get more time to watch Netflix (while someone else takes care of your cleaning).

Regular domestic cleaning usually begins with a one-off deep cleaning service. This allows you to get a feel for the company and the cleaners who work there, and who will be entering your home on a regular basis.

On the other hand, it allows the cleaners to set the stage for their following visits. Once the deeper cleaning is performed, it’s a lot easier to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

How Much Does It Cost To Hire a Regular Domestic Cleaner in London?

There are many factors that go into determining the price of regular domestic cleaning services.

The average price for hiring a regular domestic cleaner in London is  £17/hour. This is excluding loyalty programs or special offers.

This average is based on the top 20 cleaning companies in London. Of course, if you dig around, you can probably find cheaper offers, but we’d advise against it. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Out of this average, the lowest bidder asks for £14/hour. The most expensive offer is £20/hour. The overwhelming majority of companies fall within the £16-17/hour range. All prices are per hour based on weekly visits.

Most companies offer the same price per hour regardless of the frequency of the visits. However, some companies charge more per hour if the frequency is less than weekly. We haven’t included those price differences because they’re not the norm. Expect to pay up to 10% for less frequent visits with some companies.

Note: We’re talking about cleaning companies. It’s entirely possible to find self-employed cleaners who charge less. But make sure you ask the right questions before you decide to work with them.

How Have London Domestic Cleaning Prices Evolved Over Time?

There’s lots of competition among cleaning companies in London and to most, the easiest way to gain market share is to compete on price.

Between 2014-2017, several venture-capital-backed players entered the market, and domestic cleaning service prices took a nosedive. These companies could afford to work at a loss while expanding their market share. Back in those days, prices of £12/hour weren’t unheard of.

However, VC money started to run out, so companies began to slowly but surely raise their prices. Before Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic, average prices were already flirting with £15/hour.

Once the pandemic hit and sales fell off a cliff, most major players increased their prices to compensate for some of their losses. The market is constantly evolving so we expect more price changes will come soon enough. But as of 2022, expect to pay around £17/hour, on average.
